C. Joseph Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), secured majority support with backing from the Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar invited Vijay to form the government after the alliance crossed the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.
