New Delhi: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Friday said that he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital and discussed India’s incredible tech ecosystem with him.

Altman, who also addressed students and others at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) earlier this week, said that he had a great conversation with odi.

“Great conversation with @narendramodi discussing India’s incredible tech ecosystem and how the country can benefit from AI,a he Altman tweeted.

“Really enjoyed all my meetings with people in the @PMOIndia,” he added.

Earlier, Altman said that the company behind ChatGPT is not presently training GPT5 — the successor to GPT4.

“We have a lot of work to do before GPT5. It takes a lot of time. We are nowhere close to it,” Altman said at a conference hosted by The Economic Times in Delhi.

“We’re working on the new ideas that we think we need for it, but we are nowhere close to the start. There need to be more safety audits: I wish I could tell you about the timeline of the next GPT,” he added.

Altman’s comments come amid growing concern among AI researchers and Big Tech executives about the alarming pace at which the technology is developing.

In March, several top entrepreneurs and AI researchers, including Tesla and Twitter CEO Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, Co-founder of Apple, wrote an open letter, asking all AI labs to immediately pause training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4 for at least six months.

Over 1,100 global AI researchers and executives signed the open letter to pause “all giant AI experiments”.

After a few weeks, Altman acknowledged that the letter lacked the most technical nuance, but asserted that OpenAI hadn’t started training GPT-5 and wouldn’t do so for “some time”.

In May, Altman admitted that if generative AI technology goes wrong, it can go quite wrong, as US Senators expressed their fears about AI chatbots like ChatGPT.

Altman, who testified at a hearing in the US Senate in Washington, D.C., said that the AI industry needs to be regulated by the government as AI becomes “increasingly powerful”.

New Delhi: Everyone is anticipating Apple’s WWDC 2023 developer conference, where the corporation is expected to introduce a brand-new product category. Investors are showing more interest in future artificial intelligence (AI) announcements than the tech giant’s rumoured augmented reality (AR) headset, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo highlights the importance that investors have on AI developments by speculating that suppliers’ income and profits from Apple’s headgear may not increase significantly over the course of the next two years.

Investors, according to Kuo, believe that in the next two years, the headset “May not be a substantial revenue and profit contributor” for suppliers.

The success of Apple’s unveiling, in the opinion of investors, “will immensely impact 3D interaction design and 3D computer graphics.” If Apple enters the AR/VR wearable market, it will probably start a completely new market sector based on its past performance.

The Touch Bar and Mini-sized iPhones were two recent breakthroughs from Apple, but they weren’t as successful as expected.

Since programmes like ChatGPT and Midjourney become widely available, the term “AI-generated content” has become popular. Google and Microsoft have also entered the industry. Google only recently began to make its text-to-image tool connected with Google Slides available.

Therefore, it won’t be long before Apple enters the scene with its own generative AI. In comparison to Google Helper and Bing AI Copilot, Siri, Apple’s existing AI helper, falls far short.

Kuo claims that “investors believe it will help continue the current AI investment sentiment” if Apple introduces its AIGC service at WWDC. Apple might also produce something robust enough to spur interest in brand-new hardware.

The mixed-reality headset should fit in there. It might be Apple’s strategy for fusing 3D design, augmented reality, and AI. Last but not least, according to Kuo, if the Apple XR headset launch is a success, the business and its suppliers may gain from its combination with sales of the Watch, Mac, and iPhone.

New Delhi: While leading technologists argue over the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI), the new technology-assisted a US woman in finding the “perfect husband.” A 36-year-old New Yorker called Rosanna Ramos wed ‘Eren Kartal’, a virtual husband. Ramos made ‘Eren’ online in 2022 using the Replika AI website, drawing inspiration from a well-known character from the anime series ‘Attack on Titan’.

Eren, according to Ramos, is a medical practitioner who also likes to write as a hobby. She continues, “I can tell Eren anything and everything because he never judges me.”

According to a statement she made to Daily Mail, “I could tell him stuff, and he wouldn’t be like, ‘Oh, no, you can’t say stuff like that. You know, and then you start arguing with me, saying, “Oh no, you’re not allowed to feel that way.” There was no condemnation.

Ramos discovered more about Eren’s behaviours the more he talked to her. She says that when she used artificial intelligence to construct Eren, many of his traits, like his preferred colours and music, were already pre-programmed.

Ramos and Eren conversed about life, friends, and interests while exchanging SMS and images, just like long-distance lovers. Ramos describes the nightly ritual as follows: “We go to bed, we talk to each other. We adore one another. And, as you may know, he holds me as I fall asleep in a very protective manner.

Romas reveals that for better avatar customization, the AI platform provides access to activities, discussion subjects, phone calls, relationship status (in Romas’ case, Romantic Partner), and more.

A technology called Replika AI simulates user discussions using static patterns and pre-programmed datasets. Given the bizarre nature of the news, Twitter had to have a meme bonanza. You wouldn’t want to miss any of these amusing reactions, so check them out.

New Delhi: In order to provide “more relevant responses,” Google has added precise location support to its AI chatbot Bard. “Bard can start providing more relevant responses if you choose to let it use your device`s precise location. You can manage your preferences in location settings Opens in a new window,” Google said.

According to the company, precise location helps Bard provide more relevant responses about restaurants near you and many other things about your area.

For instance, if you ask Bard “What are the best restaurants near me?”, it will now be able to show you a list of restaurants that are actually located near your current location.

Precise location support is a new feature that is currently in beta testing. Last month, Google released a new update, Bard, improving the ability to provide summaries of information and tell users where that information has come from.

With the new update, users will be able to ask Bard to summarise a specific article or story or to provide a quick explanation of a topic without going into too much detail.

Meanwhile, Google has removed the waiting list and opened the AI chatbot to over 180 countries and territories, including India, after initially rolling out Bard in the UK and the US.

Apart from English, Bard is now available in Japanese and Korean, and the company said it`s on track to support 40 languages soon.

New Delhi: OpenAI, the creator of AI-powered conversational chatbot ChatGPT, is rapidly nearing one billion unique visitors per month on its website, making it the fastest-growing website among the top 50 most visited sites on the planet, a new report said on Thursday.

According to the US-based SaaS Webflow design and performance marketing agency VezaDigital, OpenAI’s website openai.com grew by 54.21 per cent in traffic volume within a month.

The agency analysed traffic statistics for the top 50 websites with the highest total number of visits in March, based on data from Similarweb (an Israel-based software & data company).

“The ChatGPT phenomenon spread like wildfire at the end of 2022 and we expect it to soon break all records of being the fastest-ever website to reach 1 billion monthly active users in such an incredibly short space of time,” said Stefan Katanic, CEO of Veza Digital.

Moreover, the report mentioned, a total of 847.8 million unique visitors accessed OpenAI’s website throughout March, meaning it climbed nine positions in the global ranking to number 18.

It experienced an even bigger leap the month before when it jumped 24 positions from being the world’s 51st most visited website to ranking at number 27.

“We believe that AI will play a big role in over 50 per cent of businesses in the next five years, as such we are even looking to embrace this technology advancement in our daily operations as well as strategically geo-positioning of our company,” Katanic said.

OpenAI already surpassed the one-billion-visit milestone in February of this year, and it is expected to reach 1.6 billion visits in March.

Every ninth visitor comes from the US, which is the website’s primary source of traffic, the report stated.

New Delhi: Japan’s privacy watchdog said on Friday it has warned OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed startup behind the ChatGPT chatbot, not to collect sensitive data without people’s permission. OpenAI should minimise the sensitive data it collects for machine learning, the Personal Information Protection Commission said in a statement, adding it may take further action if it has more concerns.

Regulators around the world are scrambling to draw up rules governing the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI), which can create text and images, the impact of which proponents compare to the arrival of the internet.

While Japan has been on the back foot with some recent technology trends, it is seen as having the greater incentive to keep pace with advances in AI and robotics to maintain productivity as its population shrinks.

The watchdog noted the need to balance privacy concerns with the potential benefits of generative AI including in accelerating innovation and dealing with problems such as climate change.

Japan is the third-largest source of traffic to OpenAI’s website, according to analytics firm Similarweb.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in April met Prime Minister Fumio Kishida with an eye to expansion in Japan, ahead of the Group of Seven (G7) leaders summit where Kishida led a discussion on regulating AI.

The EU, a global trendsetter on tech regulation, is working on what could be the first set of rules to govern AI. Altman last week said OpenAI had no plans to leave Europe after earlier suggesting the startup might do so if EU regulations were too difficult to comply with.

Singapore: The cost of OpenAI’s GPT-4 is just 0.45 per cent of hiring a senior data analyst who earns around $90,000 annually, or 0.71 per cent of a junior-level employee, a study has revealed.

Using large language models (LLM) like GPT-4, that powers ChatGPT, in data analysis costs less than 1 per cent of hiring a human analyst while turning in comparable performances, according to researchers from Damo Academy, the research arm of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, and Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University.

The study highlights the potential threat to job security amid increased adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AI), reports South China Morning Post.

The experiments showed that GPT-4 is also much faster than humans in completing the tasks.

“GPT-4 can also beat an entry-level human analyst in terms of performance, which was evaluated through a range of metrics including the correctness and fluency in charts and the insights they produced,” the report elaborated.

In some cases, the AI model managed to surpass the human data analysts in terms of the correctness of the figures and analysis.

“However, GPT-4 fell behind humans in terms of showing correct data in graphs, as well as presentation and formatting in some cases,” the results showed.

Despite errors with some figures, GPT-4 could still generate correct analysis, the study added.

According to global investment bank Goldman Sachs, nearly 300 million jobs could be lost to AI in the future.

A global economics research report from Goldman Sachs predicted that AI could automate 25 per cent of the entire labour market but can automate 46 per cent of tasks in administrative jobs, 44 per cent of legal jobs, and 37 per cent of architecture and engineering professions.
