New Delhi: Apple has officially unveiled its highly anticipated and long-rumored VR/AR headset called the “Apple Vision Pro” at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference 2023. This device marks Apple’s entry into the competitive landscape, challenging Meta’s Quest series.

The Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary device that combines spatial computing, seamlessly merging digital content with the physical world. It offers an immersive experience while ensuring users remain connected and engaged with their surroundings and others.

Priced at $3999 (approximately Rs 3.25 lakhs), the Apple Vision Pro is a high-end offering. It is expected to be available for pre-order early next year, allowing enthusiasts to experience the cutting-edge capabilities of this advanced headset.

The device’s visionOS will work on the world’s first spatial operating system, meaning to let users interact with digital content in a way that feels like it is physically present in their spaces.

“Today marks the beginning of a new era for computing,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Just as the Mac introduced us to personal computing, and iPhone introduced us to mobile computing, Apple Vision Pro introduces us to spatial computing.

Apple Vision Pro Display

The breakthrough design of Vision Pro features an ultra-high-resolution display system that packs 23 million pixels across two displays, and custom Apple silicon in a unique dual-chip design to ensure every experience feels like it’s taking place in front of the user’s eyes in real time.

Immersive Environments: With Environments, a user’s world can grow beyond the dimensions of a physical room with dynamic, beautiful landscapes that can help them focus or reduce clutter in busy spaces. A twist of the Digital Crown lets a user control how present or immersed they are in an environment.

Engaging entertainment experiences: With two ultra-high-resolution displays, Apple Vision Pro can transform any space into a personal movie theater with a screen that feels 100 feet wide and an advanced Spatial Audio system.

World’s First 3D Camera

Featuring Apple’s first three-dimensional camera, Apple Vision Pro lets users capture, relive, and immerse themselves in favorite memories with Spatial Audio. Every spatial photo and video transports users back to a moment in time, like a celebration with friends or a special family gathering. Users can access their entire photo library on iCloud, and view their photos and videos at a life-size scale with brilliant color and spectacular detail.

All-New App Store

Apple Vision Pro has an all-new App Store where users can discover apps and content from developers, and access hundreds of thousands of familiar iPhone and iPad apps that run great and automatically work with the new input system for Vision Pro.

Eyesight Feature

Apple Vision Pro also features EyeSight, an extraordinary innovation that helps users stay connected with those around them. When a person approaches someone wearing Vision Pro, the device feels transparent — letting the user see them while also displaying the user’s eyes. When a user is immersed in an environment or using an app, EyeSight gives visual cues to others about what the user is focused on.

Apple Vision Pro Design

Apple Vision Pro builds on Apple innovation and experience designing high-performance products like Mac, iPhone, and wearables like Apple Watch, culminating in the most advanced personal electronics device ever. To achieve ambitious goals for performance, mobility, and wearability, Apple utilized the most advanced materials possible.

Optic ID

Optic ID is a new secure authentication system that analyzes a user’s iris under various invisible LED light exposures, and then compares it to the enrolled Optic ID data that is protected by the Secure Enclave to instantly unlock Apple Vision Pro. A user’s Optic ID data is fully encrypted, is not accessible to apps, and never leaves their device, meaning it is not stored on Apple servers.

Where a user looks stays private while navigating Apple Vision Pro, and eye tracking information is not shared with Apple, third-party apps, or websites. Additionally, data from the camera and other sensors is processed at the system level, so individual apps do not need to see a user’s surroundings to enable spatial experiences. EyeSight also includes a visual indicator that makes it clear to others when a user is capturing a spatial photo or video.

Cupertino (California): The iPhone maker announced a plethora of devices and software updates at its flagship developer event but the star attraction was Reality Pro — a super-premium $3,499 AR headset or a spatial computer that seamlessly blends digital content with the physical world.

Apple kicked off its Worldwide Developers’ Conference (WWDC) 2023 here with unveiling the 15-inch MacBook Air, with an expansive 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display, M2 chip and up to 18 hours of battery life.

The MacBook Air with M2 is available to order and will reach customers from June 13.

The 15-inch MacBook Air with M2, available in midnight, starlight, silver, and space gray, starts at Rs 134,900 and Rs 124,900 for education.

The company also introduced the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro, the two most powerful Macs ever made.

Mac Studio starts at Rs 209,900 and Rs 188,900 for students.

Available in both tower and rack-mounted enclosures, Mac Pro (Tower Enclosure) starts at Rs 729,900 and Rs 687,900 for students.

Mac Studio features M2 Max and the new M2 Ultra, delivering a huge boost in performance and enhanced connectivity in its stunningly compact design.

Mac Studio is up to 6x faster than the most powerful Intel-based 27-inch iMac 1 and up to 3x faster than the previous-generation Mac Studio with M1 Ultra.

Mac Pro, now featuring M2 Ultra, combines the unprecedented performance of Apple’s most powerful chip with the versatility of PCIe expansion.

Mac Pro is up to 3x faster than the previous-generation Intel-based model.

Featuring up to 192GB of unified memory, Mac Studio with M2 Ultra and Mac Pro have far more memory than the most advanced workstation graphics cards, taking on demanding workloads other systems can’t even process, said Apple.

Calling it historic and marking the beginning of a new era for computing, Apple CEO Tim Cook then announced Vision Pro AR headset that introduces people to spatial computing.

Vision Pro introduces a fully three-dimensional user interface controlled by a user’s eyes, hands, and voice.

Featuring visionOS, the world’s first spatial operating system, Vision Pro lets users interact with digital content in a way that feels like it is physically present in their space.

With two ultra-high-resolution displays, Apple Vision Pro can transform any space into a personal movie theater with a screen that feels 100 feet wide and an advanced Spatial Audio system, according to the company.

Apple Vision Pro also features EyeSight, that helps users stay connected with those around them.

When a person approaches someone wearing Vision Pro, the device feels transparent – letting the user see them while also displaying the user’s eyes.

When a user is immersed in an environment or using an app, EyeSight gives visual cues to others about what the user is focused on.

“These groundbreaking innovations are powered by Apple silicon in a unique dual-chip design,” said Apple.

M2 delivers unparalleled standalone performance, while the brand-new R1 chip processes input from 12 cameras, five sensors, and six microphones to ensure that content feels like it is appearing right in front of the user’s eyes, in real time.

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that Disney+ will be available on the Vision Pro at launch.

Taking its silicon chip business to a new level, Apple introduced M2 Ultra, a new system on a chip (SoC) that supports up to a breakthrough 192GB of memory capacity, which is 50 per cent more than M1 Ultra.

M2 Ultra is built using a second-generation 5-nanometer process and uses Apple’s groundbreaking UltraFusion technology to connect the die of two M2 Max chips, doubling the performance.

M2 Ultra consists of 134 billion transistors — 20 billion more than M1 Ultra. It features 800GB of memory bandwidth — twice that of M2 Max.

On the software side, Apple announced iOS 17, a major release that upgrades the communications experience across Phone, FaceTime, and Messages; makes sharing even easier with AirDrop; and provides more intelligent input that improves the speed and accuracy of typing.

iOS 17 also introduces new experiences with Journal, an app that makes it easy for people to practice gratitude, and StandBy, a new way to view glanceable information when iPhone is set down and charging.

The Phone app is central to the iPhone experience, and it receives a big update with personalised Contact Posters, providing a new way for users to express themselves.

Live Voicemail gives users the ability to see real-time transcription as someone leaves a voicemail, and the opportunity to pick up while the caller is leaving their message.

FaceTime now supports audio and video messages so when users call someone who is not available, they can share a message that can be enjoyed later.

With iOS 17, AirDrop gets new ways to share. NameDrop allows users to easily share contact information by simply bringing their iPhones together, or by bringing an iPhone and Apple Watch together.

The company also announced a slew of features across iPadOS, tvOS and macOS.

iPadOS 17 brings new levels of personalisation and versatility to iPad, featuring a redesigned Lock Screen and interactive widgets; intelligent new features in PDFs and Notes; updates to Messages, FaceTime, and Safari; and the all-new Health app.

Apple previewed macOS Sonoma, the latest version of the world’s most advanced desktop operating system, bringing a rich set of features that elevate the Mac experience.

The company announced major updates to Safari Private Browsing, Communication Safety, and Lockdown Mode, as well as app privacy improvements.

New Delhi: Everyone is anticipating Apple’s WWDC 2023 developer conference, where the corporation is expected to introduce a brand-new product category. Investors are showing more interest in future artificial intelligence (AI) announcements than the tech giant’s rumoured augmented reality (AR) headset, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo highlights the importance that investors have on AI developments by speculating that suppliers’ income and profits from Apple’s headgear may not increase significantly over the course of the next two years.

Investors, according to Kuo, believe that in the next two years, the headset “May not be a substantial revenue and profit contributor” for suppliers.

The success of Apple’s unveiling, in the opinion of investors, “will immensely impact 3D interaction design and 3D computer graphics.” If Apple enters the AR/VR wearable market, it will probably start a completely new market sector based on its past performance.

The Touch Bar and Mini-sized iPhones were two recent breakthroughs from Apple, but they weren’t as successful as expected.

Since programmes like ChatGPT and Midjourney become widely available, the term “AI-generated content” has become popular. Google and Microsoft have also entered the industry. Google only recently began to make its text-to-image tool connected with Google Slides available.

Therefore, it won’t be long before Apple enters the scene with its own generative AI. In comparison to Google Helper and Bing AI Copilot, Siri, Apple’s existing AI helper, falls far short.

Kuo claims that “investors believe it will help continue the current AI investment sentiment” if Apple introduces its AIGC service at WWDC. Apple might also produce something robust enough to spur interest in brand-new hardware.

The mixed-reality headset should fit in there. It might be Apple’s strategy for fusing 3D design, augmented reality, and AI. Last but not least, according to Kuo, if the Apple XR headset launch is a success, the business and its suppliers may gain from its combination with sales of the Watch, Mac, and iPhone.

The company built a new “structure” at the “Apple Park” campus designed to provide controlled hands-on demos of the headset, reports MacRumors.

There will also be a hands-on area in the Steve Jobs Theater for hardware demonstrations after the keynote, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

“It sounds like Apple will also have a hands-on area in the Steve Jobs Theater – open to developers – for after the keynote – in addition to headset building,” he tweeted.

Hands-on experiences will include FaceTime in VR, Apple TV+ content, and games.

Moreover, the report said that users with migraines, vertigo, post-concussion syndrome, and past traumatic brain injuries will be warned not to use the headset.

Apple’s ‘WWDC 2023’ keynote event is set to be held on June 5. Meanwhile, Apple’s AR/VR headset will reportedly be available in six colours and two storage capacities.

The information was shared by the Twitter account @billbil_kun, which had accurately leaked a spec sheet for Samsung’s Galaxy S23 Ultra before it was unveiled earlier this year.

According to the leaker, the new headset will come in black, blue, grey, green, pink and a sixth undisclosed colour.

New Delhi: Apple will mark its original 12-inch MacBook as an obsolete product on June 30, according to an internal memo. The laptop will no longer be eligible for repairs or services at Apple Stores and Apple Authorised Service Providers once it has been declared obsolete because parts will no longer be available, reports MacRumors.

The iPhone maker marks a product as technologically obsolete when more than seven years have passed since the tech giant stopped offering it for sale.

The original 12-inch MacBook was discontinued in April 2016 after being replaced by a second-generation model with better specifications, making it more than seven years old.

The 12-inch MacBook was the first MacBook model to come equipped with Apple’s infamous butterfly switch keyboard, the report said.

Meanwhile, in January this year, the tech giant officially marked the third-generation iPad mini as an obsolete product. The third-generation iPad mini was a popular iPad that launched in 2014 alongside the second-generation iPad Air.
