For the 12th year, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah take the top two slots in RMA News list, with nine of the top 10 the same as in 2025.

The world order may have been upended, battered by another war. But it is hard to tell this looking at the list of India’s most powerful. For the 12th year, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah take the top two slots in The RMA News list, with nine of the top 10 the same as in 2025.

That’s a testament to how power equations remain largely unchanged even ahead of another round of Assembly elections. The list also tells the story of the Opposition’s failure to check the BJP, even as the latter pushes into new territory. Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee are the only two non-NDA leaders who make the top 20. If the Congress leader’s efforts mean he has just about kept his No. 9 slot, the Trinamool Congress chief continues to stay one step ahead of the indefatigable BJP.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been a collateral — and not unwilling — beneficiary of this high-stakes political fight, vaulting to No. 20. In 2024, his counterpart was at a much more modest No. 63. The other new entrants in the list, who rank as close, are here by virtue of the posts they now occupy — Chief Justice Surya Kant (No. 17), and BJP chief Nitin Nabin (No. 21).

US President Donald Trump’s volatility (to put it mildly) means Commerce, Finance and External Affairs Ministries have to be constantly on their toes and, hence, Piyush Goyal (No. 5 from No. 12) joins Nirmala Sitharaman and S Jaishankar in the top 10. Not surprisingly, NSA Ajit Doval, the government’s eyes and ears on all things security, climbs too, to No. 29.

With six years plus and counting as Principal Secretary to the PM, PK Mishra continues to be one of Modi’s most trusted (the PM rushed him to Ahmedabad after the Air India plane crash in June 2025) aides, and surges by 46 spots to No. 32. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi sees the same rise, to No. 35, as she takes on a more hands-on role in the party, with Assam to be her litmus test after UP.

One person watching the Congress performance closely would be AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who is at No. 55 now, up by 34, as he climbs into the space vacated by the Opposition on minority issues.

In a BJP where power flows from the top, only a rare party CM such as Yogi Adityanath, Devendra Fadnavis and Himanta Biswa Sarma figures at the top; Opposition leaders fill more rungs on this count. But the CM with the biggest fall is Nitish Kumar; down 63 ranks to No. 84, after a farewell to Bihar. Nitish called it his own decision. However, surely the Hero No. 1 of Bihar, who had a glorious poll victory just months earlier, would have wished for a better ending.

Talking about heroes and endings, the two new entrants from Bollywood in the list are Aditya Dhar and Arijit Singh — Dhar for announcing his arrival as a dhurandhar of “patriotism” packaged slickly; Arijit for “exiting” while the music still sang.

Chennai: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will flag off a six-month-long statewide padayatra of BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai on Friday at the temple town of Rameswaram. The inaugural ceremony, according to a statement from the BJP state office will take place on Friday evening. K. Annamalai will commence his yatra from Saturday morning.

The padayatra named, ‘En Mann, En Makkal’ meaning ‘My land, My people’ will cover all the 234 Assembly constituencies of the state, and the BJP is expecting it to be a game changer for its fortunes in the state. Ever since K. Annamalai, an IPS officer-turned politician became the state president of the BJP, he has been on an aggressive move against the ruling DMK and has brought out alleged corruption details against the DMK and its senior leaders..

This includes the alleged corruption details of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin while he was the Deputy Chief Minister during the previous DMK government. The campaign will be covering all 39 Lok Sabha constituencies of Tamil Nadu and will conclude on January 11, 2024, ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The BJP state president will cover 1,770 km by foot and will travel in the rural areas in a vehicle. Ten major rallies are planned during the padayatra and one central minister will address each of these rallies, including senior national leaders.

NEW DELHI: With the ruling BJP shifting its focus to poll-bound states after losing its southern citadel Karnataka to Congress, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a rally in Haryana’s Sirsa on June 18. Sharing more information, BJP’s Haryana Haryana in-charge and former chief minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb said that the party will hold 13 major events in Haryana till June 30 to mark the completion of nine years of PM Narendra Modi-led government at the centre.

Shah will be in Haryana as part of the ruling BJP’s massive ‘Jan Sampark’ Abhiyan to reach out to the masses to highlight the nine years of achievements of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre ahead of the 2024 lok sabha polls.

As part of the plan, the saffron party would organise rallies, hold talks with business organisations, build contact with senior workers, organise Yoga Day programmes on June 21 and conduct various other activities during this period.

BJP Switches To Poll Mode

After facing the electoral debacle in Karnataka, the ruling BJP has shifted its focus to poll-bound states like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana and where assembly polls will be held next year. If sources are to be believed, the BJP is eyeing the Lok Sabha seat of Sirsa – a stronghold of Haryana’s powerful Chautala family. Amit Shah had earlier this year in January visited Sonipat and Rohtak – both considered to be strong bastions of former Congress CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had swept all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana. Prior to that, in 2014, Sirsa had gone to the INLD, while Deepender Hooda of the Congress emerged victorious in Rohtak. Sonipat was won by BJP’s Ramesh Chander Kaushik.

Andhra Pradesh

Besides Haryana, Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda will visit Andhra Pradesh as part of the Mega Jan Sampark Abhiyan. The purpose of the leaders’ visit is to present the progress card of the PM Modi government’s nine-year tenure to the public, said sources in the BJP. According to the party sources, Home Minister Shah will address a public rally in Visakhapatnam on June 8, while Nadda will address a gathering in Tirupati on June 10.

Assam

Amit Shah and Nadda will also visit Assam this month and they will take part in two mega public meetings of Assam BJP’s Maha Janasampark Abhiyan. BJP will hold several mega public rallies in all 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of the state from June 11. According to the Assam BJP, huge public meetings are to be held from June 11 to June 30 in Lok Sabha Constituencies of the state by Assam BJP in order to discuss in detail the policies and schemes implemented by the Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of the country including Assam and preparations for upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Shah, Nadda, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP National Vice President Baijayant Jay Panda, Union Minister, Kiren Rijiju and several other ministers, party leaders will participate in the meetings.

In this regard, Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita said “Union Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in the meeting to be held at Hojai under the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency on June 27 and BJP National President JP Nadda will participate in the meeting to be held at Sivasagar under the Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency on June 19.” Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will be present in the meetings to be held at the Lok Sabha constituencies of Diphu, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Jorhat and Dhubri as the chief guest.

On the other hand, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will be present in the meeting at the Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency as the Chief Guest. Also, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will be present in the meeting to be attended by Union Minister Amit Shah at Nagaon’s Hojai.

CM Sarma will also attend the meeting at Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency where the BJP National President will be present.

As part of the nine-year celebration, the BJP has planned to hold around 50 rallies all across the country between May 30 and June 30, of which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the charge and address half-a-dozen rallies. According to sources, the campaign will also give a thrust to the BJP’s preparations for the Lok Sabha elections which is nearly a year away.

New Delhi: The Centre has constituted a three-member Commission of Inquiry, headed by the former chief justice of the Gauhati High Court Ajai Lamba, to investigate into the incidents of violence in Manipur which started in early May. The Commission shall submit its report to the Central Government as soon as possible but not later than six months from the date of its first sitting.

The Government of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has notified a Commission of Inquiry under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, chaired by Justice Ajai Lamba, former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court with Himanshu Shekhar Das, IAS (Retd.) and Aloka Prabhakar, IPS (Retd.) as members to inquire into the incidents of violence in the state of Manipur on May 3 and thereafter, the official notification said.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in a release said the commission shall make an inquiry with respect to the causes and spread of the violence, which took place in Manipur, and whether there were any lapses on the part of any of the responsible authorities or individuals. The headquarters of the commission shall be in Imphal – the capital of Manipur.

Meanwhile, a total of 202 arms, 252 ammunition and 92 bombs of all kinds recovered after the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah to Manipur. A total of 789 arms and 10648 ammunition have been recovered till date. Security Advisor to Government of Manipur Kuldiep Singh said that the situation in Manipur by and large remained under control.

Amit Shah Urges People To Lift Blockade

There are reports of blockades at Imphal-Dimapaur National Highway-2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has appealed to the people to lift the blockade. In his tweet, Home Minister said, “My sincerest appeal to the people of Manipur is to lift the blockades at the Imphal-Dimapur, NH-2 Highway, so that food, medicines, Petrol/Diesel, and other necessary items can reach the people.I also request that Civil Society Organisations do the needful in bringing consensus. Together only we can restore normalcy in this beautiful state”.

“We hope that people will surely take into account the Home Minister’s appeal and lift the blockade on the Imphal-Dimapaur National Highway-2 at the earliest,” the official release said.

Curfew Relaxed In Manipur

“Curfew relaxation has been made for 12 hours in the valley and 10 hours and 07 hours in the neighbouring hill districts. During the last 24 hours 23 more arms have been recovered. This makes a total of 202 arms, 252 ammunition and 92 bombs of all kinds recovered after the visit of Home Minister. A total of 789 arms and 10648 ammunition have been recovered till date,” the official statement said.

Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah visited Manipur from May 29 to June 1, 2023, and after taking stock of the situation announced the appointment of a Commission of Inquiry. Shah’s visit to the violence-hit state was to take stock of the situation and to hold talks with different stakeholders in a bid to restore a sense of calm in the state.

Amit Shah urged all communities and sections of society to maintain peace, hold discussions and promote harmony as well as surrender their weapons to the police. He also appealed to the people not to pay heed to rumours and maintain peace and harmony.

Internet services continue to remain suspended and security forces deployed in Manipur after clashes between communities residing in hills and plains districts. The violence apparently started after a Scheduled Tribes reservation was demanded by the plains dwellers, who are predominantly Meiteis and are the majority in numbers. Against those demands, a rally was organised by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) — mostly from the Kuki community. Manipur later turned violent and ever since there has been incidents of violence and arson with dozens of lives so far. However, the curfew has been withdrawn in some districts.
