The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lifted their fifth IPL title with their leader MS Dhoni as they defeated the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the finale on a rainy Monday night. MSD was the center of attraction as it was speculated that it is his last IPL game. After Chennai won the title, Ziva along with Ambati Rayudu’s daughter and Ajinkya Rahane’s daughter joined the team to celebrate the emotional moment.

During the final overs, Ziva just like all CSK fans was seen praying for her father’s team to win. With the overs reduced due to rain, CSK needed 171 in 15 overs. Chennai had no option but to go all guns blazing from ball one after the restart.

It was a long and sleepless night for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the team along with skipper MS Dhoni partied all night after winning their record-equalling fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title on Monday. CSK defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) by five-wickets in a rain-shortened IPL 2023 Final.

CSK social media handle shared a video of the victorious team arriving at the team hotel in Ahmedabad late on Monday night. Skipper Dhoni was seen cutting multi-layered cake, with each layer signifying the years in which CSK won the IPL title. Young Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana was given the honour of carrying the IPL Trophy into the team hotel with other young cricketers in the team seen dancing as they entered.

In another video going viral on social media, CSK pacer Deepak Chahar is seen dancing in the lobby of the team hotel at 5am in the morning with his wife Jaya Bhardwaj celebrating the win.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya paid rich tributes to his mentor and rival captain MS Dhoni, saying ‘destiny had this written for him’ to lead Chennai Super Kings to a record-equalling fifth IPL title in what could be his last season in the T20 league. CSK beat GT by five wickets in a thrilling rain-affected summit showdown with Ravindra Jadeja smashing a six and a four off the last two balls to chase down a revised target of 171 in 15 overs here on Monday.

“I’m very happy for him (Dhoni). Destiny had this written for him,” Pandya said after the heartbreaking loss. “If I had to lose, I don’t mind losing to him. Good things happen to good people and he’s been one of the best people I know. God has been kind, God has been kind to me as well but today was his night,” added Pandya.

Ravindra Jadeja Dedicates IPL 2023 Title To MS Dhoni, Says ‘Mahi Bhai Aapke Liye Kuch Bhi…’

Ravindra Jadeja wasn’t sure if he was going to be part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team in the IPL 2023 season. But on Monday night, Jadeja hit the winning runs which took CSK to their fifth IPL title with a five-wicket win over defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The CSK all-rounder ended IPL 2023 campaign with 190 runs in 16 matches and 20 wickets at an average 21. But over the course of the IPL 2023 season, he managed to repair what was a fractured relationship with CSK skipper MS Dhoni. Midway through the IPL 2022 season, Jadeja was replaced by Dhoni as the CSK skipper once again, following which the all-rounder pulled out of the rest of the matches due to an injury.

Jadeja unfollowed CSK on their social media platform which led to speculation that the all-rounder might not be retained by Dhoni and the team for IPL 2023 season. However, Dhoni put his foot down to retain Jadeja ahead of the IPL 2023 auction and kept his faith in the all-rounder as well.

A day after being crowned IPL 2023 champions, Jadeja dedicated the title to Dhoni and posted pictures of himself and his wife Rivaba with MS Dhoni in the CSK dressing room. “We did it for ONE and ONLY “MS DHONI. mahi bhai aapke liye toh kuch bhi…” Jadeja tweeted.

Jadeja smashed 15 off 6 balls, including 10 off the last two deliveries to lift CSK to their fifth IPL title in 14 season. He dedicated the win to the ‘special member of the CSK side’ – MS Dhoni. “I’m from Gujarat, and it’s a special feeling. This crowd has been amazing. They were waiting for rain to stop till late night, I’d like to say a big congratulations to the CSK fans who came to support us,” Jadeja said after the match.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan lauded the Saurashtra all-rounder for delivering in style. Speaking on Star Sports’ ‘Cricket Live’, Irfan Pathan said, “Hat’s off to Sir Jadeja. He delivered for CSK in a crunch situation and took his team to a record-equalling fifth IPL title. He held on to his nerves even as the game seemed to have slipped away from CSK’s grip. Personally, he went through a lot last season, but the India star all-rounder has put all the disappointments behind him. The son of Gujarat wins it for a team from Chennai in front of a capacity ground in Ahmedabad. It couldn’t have been better.”

Shubman Gill became 2nd highest run-scorer in an IPL season ever

Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill has now struck the second-most runs (890) in an IPL season. He surpassed Jos Buttler’s tally of 863 runs which he scored in the 2022 edition. Virat Kohli tops the chart with 973 runs in the year 2016.

GT posted highest score in IPL final

Gujarat Titans recorded the highest-ever total of 214/4 in finals in the IPL. They went past Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) score of 208/7 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 2016 season.

Devon Conway becomes 2nd highest run-getter for CSK in a season

Devon Conway has now hit the second-most runs (672) for Chennai Super Kings in an edition. The New Zealand opener surpassed Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s tally of 633 runs in 2021 and 635 runs in 2021 respectively. Michael Hussey tops the chart with 733 runs in the 2013 season.

Shivam Dube’s record 35 sixes for CSK

Shivam Dube is now joint-top with Shane Watson for smashing the most sixes (35) for CSK in a season. Watson also hit 35 in the 2018 edition.

MS Dhoni has always been the one to share the limelight when it comes to presentation ceremonies, whether it is after the ODI World Cup or T20 World Cup or ICC Champions Trophy or the Indian Premier League. On Monday night, Dhoni added a fifth crown for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), leading them to the IPL 2023 final win over Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Dhoni immediately handed over the IPL trophy to teammates Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu, who was playing his final IPL match.

The chief architect of CSK’s win was all-rounder and former captain Ravindra Jadeja. With CSK needing 10 to win off the last two balls in the rain-shortened final, Jadeja smashed bowler Mohit Sharma for a six and a four off the final two deliveries. As CSK team rushed on to the field to celebrate their title win, one man remained calm in the dug-out – MS Dhoni.

However, in a rare moment full of emotion, Dhoni hugged Jadeja when he came to the dug-out and lifted him up with a huge smile on his face. The bear-hug from Dhoni ended a much-speculated feud between Jadeja and the current CSK skipper, which began from the IPL 2022 season.

Jadeja was relieved of the CSK captaincy mid-way through IPL 2022 season and Dhoni returned to lead the team since then. The all-rounder went missing from the rest of the IPL 2022 season with injury and even unfollowed CSK team’s social media account. There was speculation that CSK may release Jadeja ahead of IPL 2023 season but Dhoni insisted on retaining the all-rounder.

There was also speculation of rift between Jadeja and Dhoni during this season as the duo were seen arguing after their final league match of the season against the Delhi Capitals. After CSK confirmed their place in the playoffs, Dhoni and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja were seen engaged in a heated debate over something. One could not understand what was the reason for this exchange.

Very rarely do you see Dhoni get into such animated conversations on ground with a teammate or opposition players. In the video, one can see Jadeja reach out to Dhoni to discuss something related to the game. Dhoni, first, calms down Jadeja by putting a hand on his shoulder and starts to explain a point. Jadeja is seen reacting to his words before Dhoni also becomes a little animated.

Jadeja and his wife Rivaba had also posted a cryptic message of social media platform after the match. However, Dhoni’s big hug and his gesture of handing over the IPL 2023 trophy of Jadeja seems to have ended the feud as well as the debate around them for now.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) created history on Monday night, defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets to lift the IPL 2023 title and become record-equalling IPL winners for the fifth time in their history. One man has been instrumental in the turnaround of CSK from last season – where they finished second-last and failed to qualify for the Playoffs stage and that is their skipper MS Dhoni.

The former India captain and wicketkeeper is 41 years of age now and at every single match in IPL 2023, Dhoni has been given thunderous ovations with people expecting this to be his farewell season. There was much speculation from game one of IPL 2023 season around Dhoni’s retirement date but the CSK skipper has provided some great news to his fans after the final.

Dhoni indicated to commentator Harsha Bhogle in the post-match presentation that he will be open to coming back to lead CSK for at least one more season. “If you circumstantially see, it’s the best time to announce the retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.

“But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up. But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to play one more season. The way they’ve shown their love and emotion, it’s something I need to do for them,” he added.

Dhoni, who became the first cricketer to play in 250 matches in IPL, admitted that this is the ‘last part of his career’. “It’s the last part of my career. It started over here and the full house was chanting my name. It was my same thing in Chennai, but it will be good to come back and play whatever I can. The kind of cricket I play, they feel they can play that cricket,” the CSK skipper said.

“There’s nothing orthodox about it and I like to keep it simple. I think every trophy or bilateral series you win, it has its own challenges. When it comes to the crunch, you need to have your individuals ready. The amount of pressure every individual can deal with is different. We tried to do that,” he added.

Dhoni went on to reveal how he deals with different members in the CSK team. “Ajinkya (Rahane) is experienced, but if they (youngsters) are confused we chat with them. The special thing about (Ambati) Rayudu if he’s on the field he always gives his 100 per cent. We played for India ‘A’ together – he played spin and fast bowlers equally well. I felt always he will do something special. He’s also like me who doesn’t use a phone a lot,” Dhoni said about Rayudu, who retired from IPL after the 2023 final.

CSK defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja sealing the title win with a six and a four off the final ball.

JioCinema Sets New Record With Over 320 Million Concurrent Viewers For IPL 2023 Final

JioCinema, the official digital streaming partner of IPL 2023, made history on Monday by achieving the highest number of simultaneous views for a live-streamed event. Over 320 million viewers tuned in to witness the exciting finale of this year’s IPL, featuring a match between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.

During the IPL 2023 Qualifier 2, JioCinema recorded an impressive 257 million concurrent viewers, who were captivated by Shubhman Gill’s sensational century in the first innings of the match between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.

Disney’s Hotstar, the previous digital streaming partner of IPL, held the record for the highest number of simultaneous viewers for a cricket match since July 2019, with 250 million viewers. This record remained unbroken for several years.

MS Dhoni Is The Best Captain In The IPL 2023 For Me, Says Former England Spinner Graeme Swann

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) MS Dhoni is already 41 years of age now but he is hitting the ball longer and farther than most batters in the IPL 2023. Dhoni, after his blazing 20 off 9 balls against the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday night, has the second-best strike-rate in IPL 2023 – 204.25 – with 10 sixes to his name already.

Not only that, Dhoni has helped the four-time former champions CSK bounce back from a dismal IPL 2022 season where they finished near the bottom of the table and now look favourites to reach the IPL 2023 Playoffs along with defending champions Gujarat Titans. CSK are currently second on the Points Table with 15 points from 11 matches.

Former England spinner and Jio Cinema’s expert believes that MS Dhoni is currently the ‘best captain’ in IPL 2023 and is ‘too big’ to retire just yet. “Every time he is batting he is just hitting sixes and he is brilliant with the gloves as well behind the stumps. Apart from that his captaincy is the best in the IPL 2023. The way he brought himself up to the stumps with Deepak Chahar bowling to Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma and plotted his dismissal, it was just too good to force a false shot from an all-time great,” Graeme Swann replied to a query by Zee News English during a virtual media interaction.

Swann believes it is premature to say that Dhoni will retire after the IPL 2023 season. “It’s natural that when cricketers get towards the back-end of their career people start to question about their retirement date. If he wants to keep on playing, he can do whatever he likes in my book. I don’t think this will be his last year to be honest, he is too big to go. He needs someone wheeling him out and maybe then also he will be hitting sixes,” Swann added.

Swann ended his Test career with 255 wickets in 60 Tests and also ended up with 104 ODI and 51 T20I wickets in his career. The former England off-spinner was in awe of Rajasthan Royals off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The Tamil Nadu and Team India all-rounder is the second-highest wicket-taker for RR in IPL 2023 with 14 wickets behind Yuzvendra Chahal, who has 17 wickets.

“He (Aswhin) is a really good bowler and on top of his game currently. He very rarely bowls the same delivery twice. He loves to be the centre-piece of every game. Whenever there is pressure, he loves to be there,” Swann said about Ashwin.

Asked about Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Sunil Narine’s poor show this season, Swann said he’s just having ‘confidence issues’ and the West Indies all-rounder should not be ‘written off’.

“I just think he’s bowling without the confidence in himself. Sometimes you get that little bit of luck when a bad ball gets a wicket, and it feels right again. I’m not writing him off. I will still pick him in my team. When you have (Varun) Chakravarthy and Suyash (Sharma) bowling so well, they can hide him (Narine) a little bit,” Swann added.

Kolkata Knight Riders are set to face off against Rajasthan Royals in match No. 56 of the IPL 2023 on Thursday night.
