Police said no suicide note has been recovered from Roshan’s room in Mahaveer Nagar Police station area, but they believe he hanged himself from the ceiling fan apparently because he failed to qualify NEET-UG with good marks even at his second attempt. The NEET results were announced earlier this week.

Roshan and his brother Suman had been preparing for the entrance exam and living at separate locations in Mahaveer Nagar area, circle officer of the area DSP Harshraj Singh told. Roshan had gone to his uncles’ place in Delhi and returned to Kota on Thursday morning after which he spoke to his mother, Singh said.

Later in the day, when his parents called, Roshan did not respond after which they asked Suman to go to his PG and check. When Suman reached there, he found his brother’s body hanging from the ceiling fan in his room on the 3rd floor of the building, the CO said.

He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, the officer added. Roshan had been preparing for the NEET?UG for two years in Kota, and he scored 400 marks out of 720 in this edition of the NEET-UG, the officer said.

Police said they have lodged a case under section 174 of CrPC (enquire and report on suicide) to probe the incident. They said his family reached Kota Friday afternoon and the body was handed over to them after postmortem. This is the 12th case student suicide in Kota in the past six months. At least 15 students took to the extreme step in 2022.

Her family once subsisted on roti and chutney, but amid these circumstances, Prerna remained steadfast in her pursuit. She studied tirelessly on an empty stomach, ultimately triumphing over NEET. 

Residing in Mahavir Nagar, Kota, Prerna has secured an impressive 686 marks in NEET UG which is enough to get her admission to a Government Medical College.

According to reports, when Prerna was studying in class X (2018), her father died due to cancer. Their single source of income fell like a house of cards. The death of the earning member threw the family into deep shock. Their financial condition was not good. Then, her mother started working and looked after the family. However, corona brought another financial crisis for the family. During this period, the family took support from their relatives. Her mother arranged money for her NEET coaching. Prerna used to study 12 hours besides coaching time. 

Prerna’s mother took a loan of about Rs 2 lakhs for her children’s studies. They are also facing a case from the bank which granted them a home loan. All four siblings have proved their merit with their hard work. Prerna’s eldest sister Anamika is pursuing B.Ed, her brother Manvendra secured a place in NIT from JEE Main and her youngest brother Vijay is doing B.Sc.

“It is expected to move northeastwards and weaken into a Cyclonic Storm by early morning on June 16, and into a depression by the same evening over south Rajasthan,” it said. IMD Director Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said that the cyclone has now moved from sea to land and is centred towards Sauarashtra-Kutch. “Cyclone Biporjoy moved northeastwards and crossed the Saurashtra-Kutch adjoining Pakistan coast close to the Jakhau port, Gujarat. The cyclone has now moved from sea to land and is centred towards Saurashtra-Kutch,” Mohapatra told ANI

“The intensity of the cyclone has reduced to 105-115 kmph. The category has changed from very severe cyclonic storm (VSCS) to severe cyclonic storm (SCS). There may be heavy rains in Rajasthan on June 16 (Friday),” he added.

The intensity of Cyclone Biparjoy has reduced from the ‘very severe’ to ‘severe’ category on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday after the storm made landfall in coastal areas of Gujarat.
IMD had earlier said that Cyclone Biparjoy is moving ahead of Saurashtra Kutch as a very severe cyclone.

“Very severe cyclonic storm (VSCS) close to Saurashtra and Kutch Coasts. The landfall process is continuing and by midnight it will be completely over the land. Part of the eye is over the land,” IMD had said on Thursday evening.

Heavy Rainfall Likely In Rajasthan

Extremely heavy rainfall is likely in Rajasthan on June 16 and 17, as the cyclone moves towards northwest, Dr M Mohapatra, the chief of the Indian Meteorological Office, said.

Storm Makes Landfall On Gujarat Coast

Cyclone Biparjoy, which had been brewing over the Arabian Sea for several days, has made landfall on Gujarat’s coastal area and has also affected the train services. Due to this, around 99 trains running through, originating or terminating in Biparjoy-affected areas of Gujarat, will remain cancelled or short-terminated, Western Railway said. Officials said that several relief and rescue teams are on alert as tens of thousands of people were evacuated to safe locations in Gujarat.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel chaired a review meeting at the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar on Thursday.

Over 22 People Injured; Poles And Trees Uprooted

At least 22 people were injured, while electric poles and trees were uprooted as the ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm Biparjoy made landfall in Gujarat on Thursday. The cyclone is likely to weaken into a depression today evening over Rajasthan. Twenty-three animals have been killed as heavy rain coupled with gusty winds brought down over 524 trees and electric poles at various places in Gujarat, snapping the supply of power to around 940 villages, they said.

Eighteen teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), 12 of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), 115 teams of the state road and building department, and 397 of the state electricity department are on the ground in coastal districts.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and took stock of the situation after the cyclonic storm made landfall. PM Modi also asked about the details of the safety arrangements for wild animals including lions in Gir Forest. 

The IMD issued a Red alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts, saying that VSCS (Very Severe Cyclonic Storm) ‘Biparjoy’ will cross Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts, between Mandvi and Karachi near Jakhau Port, by Thursday evening.

Ports Shut, Ships Anchored

Warnings about extensive damage to temporary housing structures and falling of trees and branches due to high-speed winds, high tides and heavy rainfall have already been issued by India Meteorological Department. 

Fishing activities have been suspended till Friday, ports are shut and ships are anchored. Two famous temples — Dwarkadhish Temple in Devbhumi Dwarka and Somnath Temple in Gir Somnath district — remained closed to devotees on Thursday. Commercial operations at Gujarat’s Jamnagar airport have been suspended till Friday. Airport authorities said diesel and petrol required to operate the airport in an emergency have been stored.

The scheme, he added, comes under his announcement for giving LPG gas cylinders for Rs 500 each.

Every family will get Rs 640 under the scheme. Around 80 lakh such families are eligible under the scheme in the state. “However, we are yet to get the right figures from the central government in this context,” the Chief Minister added.

“We have collected information at our level to provide subsidies to eligible families under the scheme,” he said.

Gehlot made the announcement on Sunday when he was on a seven-hour visit to Jodhpur for the inauguration of developmental works worth over Rs 1000 crore.

During his Ajmer visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ajmer but did not speak on ERCP. “But he should have mentioned about our ambitious scheme,” said Chief Minister Gehlot.

Referring to Shekhawat’s alleged involvement in the Sanjeevani Credit Co-operative Society scam, the chief minister asked Shekhawat to come forward and talk to the depositors of the society. Gehlot claimed that he even spoke to Shekhawat’s mentor Bhagwan Singh Rolsahabsar and told him that his disciple is allegedly not returning money of the depositors. “But nothing happened. He might also be under some compulsion for not exhorting Shekhawat to return the money,” he added. Shekhawat has dismissed allegations linking him to the credit society and has also filed a defamation case in a Delhi court against Gehlot. The Rajasthan chief minister also spoke about the welfare schemes by his government, saying since the BJP has no reply to these schemes, they are defaming the Congress and misleading people.

At another public meeting in Pali district’s Rohet, Gehlot also slammed the Centre for not taking any stand on the ongoing protests by wrestlers against outgoing WFI president Brij Bhushan Singh. “Our wrestler daughters have been sitting in Delhi since long. But the Centre has nothing to do with that. All the medal winner players of the country are disappointed today,” Gehlot added.

The Delhi Police has registered two FIRs against Singh. The FIRs lodged on the basis of complaints from six women wrestlers and the father of a minor narrate several alleged instances of sexual harassment, inappropriate touching, groping, stalking and intimidation by Singh at different times and places, including in foreign countries, over a decade.

He contested as an Independent in the assembly polls and later formed an alliance with the BJP from Nagaur. Later, he also contested the parliamentary polls and won. Recently, he broke his alliance with the BJP due to the farm laws issue. The BJP recently organised its state executive meeting in Nagaur to woo voters from this belt.

However, Beniwal still stands strong among his community and has announced he will give his full support to Sachin Pilot if he forms his own party. The Jats in fact form the biggest caste group in Rajasthan with 9% population, the Marwar and Shekhawati regions are dominated by the Jats in 31 constituencies. Their significance and unity can be gauged from the fact that these constituencies saw voters sending 25 winners from the community.

Overall, they got 37 seats in the 200-member state assembly, elections for which were held on December 7, 2018. The Jats are followed by the Rajputs, with 6% of the population, who accounted for 17 seats. Next is the Gujjar community which has a say in around 30 to 35 seats of eastern Rajasthan. They have traditionally been BJP voters but then they voted for the Congress showing loyalty to their community leader Sachin Pilot.

The community is influential in at least 30 seats, including Dausa, Karauli, Hindaun and Tonk. Together, the Meenas and Gujjars comprise 13% of the state`s population. “The Gujjars have traditionally been BJP supporters, but last time because of Pilot, they voted for the Congress,” said a party leader.

The Meenas are known to be Congress supporters, but then they had rejected their own community leader Kirodilal Meena, who claims to be the biggest tribal leader in the state. Eighteen Meena legislators were elected in the last polls; nine from the Congress, five from the BJP, and three Independents.

The Meenas continued to support the Congress, despite their leader Kirodilal Meena`s return to the BJP. According to political analysts, the community supported the Congress “without looking at the candidate, as they were not heard in the BJP government.” Together, the Meenas and Gujjars comprise 13% of the state`s population. Now all eyes are on the Assembly polls 2023.

The first crucial question is where will the Gujjars vote? This is a billion dollar question as the community feels cheated that their leader was not made chief minister when he was the face of the 2018 polls. Now, amid speculation that Pilot will float a new party on June 11, this question becomes all the more crucial. If the community stands with him the Congress will face a loss of these crucial 30 to 35 seats in the forthcoming assembly polls.

Next is the Jat community which is yet again crucial in Rajasthan. While the Congress has its PCC president Govind Singh Dotasra who is a prominent Jat leader, the BJP has its ex-president Satish Poonia as a Jat.

While the BJP removed Poonia, upsetting the Jat community, the Congress, sources said, might elevate Dotasra as deputy CM to woo the Jat leaders. The BJP later announced Poonia as deputy leader of the opposition to placate the Jats, looking at their strong vote base.

The Meenas, the next crucial vote bank, is also being looked upon with speculation to see if they will help their powerful leader Kirodilal Meena of the BJP to win or else in another permutation if the Gujjars and Meenas stay united? All permutations and combinations are being discussed by the parties to ensure victory in the assembly polls.

Overall, the state has four major communities — Rajputs, Jats, Meenas and Gujjars, who voted in a mixed manner in the 2018 assembly elections, which saw the BJP concede defeat, and the Congress return to power after five years.
