“The fire has been brought under control. All agencies including CISF, Army came together to douse the fire and it has been controlled,” said the District Collector. Bhopal Police Commissioner, Harinarayan Chari Mishra said that primarily it has come to the fore that the cause of the fire is a short circuit, but a team of experts has been formed to investigate it.

“The flames have been controlled but there is a cloud of smoke at different places, due to which there is a possibility that it may catch fire later but teams are working. As of now, there is no need (for IAF helicopters). Initially, the fire incident occurred on the third floor of the building and later it spread up to the sixth floor of the building on Monday. On getting the information about the incident fire tenders rushed to the spot and started extinguishing the fire. Earlier on Monday, calling it an unfortunate incident, Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Prabhuram Chaudhary said that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident.

“It is an unfortunate incident. The administration is engaged in dousing the fire. CM also spoke with PM and all efforts are being made. A high-level inquiry will be conducted into the incident,” he said. On getting the information about the incident, fire tenders rushed to the spot and started extinguishing the fire. CM Chouhan talked with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and sought help from the Air Force to douse the fire. He also spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, informed him about the incident and sought necessary help.

On the directions of the Defence Minister, IAF’s AN 32 and Mi-15 aircraft were sent to Bhopal for the dousing operation. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a phone call and informed him about the fire incident. He apprised PM Modi of the efforts of the State Government in dousing the fire and the help received from various departments of the Central Government.

PM Modi assured the Chief Minister of all possible help from the Centre. Besides, the CM announced a committee to find out the preliminary causes of the fire. The committee includes Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Home Rajesh Rajoura, Principal Secretary (PS) Urban Neeraj Mandloi, Principal Secretary (PS) PWD (Public works Department) Sukhbir Singh and Additional Director General of Police (ADG) fire. After finding the preliminary cause in the investigation, the committee will hand over the report to CM Chouhan.

Worth mentioning that the Congress promised to provide Rs 1500 to women (with certain conditions) under its proposed scheme `Nari Samman Yojana` to counter the BJP`s `Ladli Behna Yojana` launched by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently. Similarly, subsidized cooking gas will counter Prime Minuter Narendra Modi`s flagship `Ujjawala Yojana` launched in May 2016.

Besides these, Congress also made another major announcement for implementing the old pension scheme (OPS) to gain the support of state government employees and their families in the coming elections. The cheaper electricity is akin to what the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced in its debut election in 2013 and since then it maintained the same in states it contested the elections.

“The Congress government in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh has restored the OPS. Our government in Karnataka has cleared the five guarantees (the poll promises made by the party there),” Priyanka said while addressing a mammoth poll gathering in Jabalpur on Monday.

Notably, the Congress made similar five-point promises in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka and managed to uproot the BJP from both states and formed the government with an absolute majority.

In her speech, Priyanka hit out at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government highlighting issues like atrocities against women and tribals, unemployment, and scams that broke out in the past 18 years in Madhya Pradesh. Referring to the collapse of Saptarishi idols in Ujjain`s Mahakal Lok corridor, Priyanka said, “Shivraj government did not spare even the God.”

Meanwhile, mocking the BJP`s `double-engine government` poll talk, the General Secretary said, “We have seen a lot of double and triple-engine governments, but people of Himachal and Karnataka have given a befitting reply in the polls.”

After attending the meeting, Singh had said, “The Congress is a democratic party. It is not the Congress tradition to announce the CM’s face in advance. The public will elect the MLAs, who will further choose the CM.”

Hitting back, Verma said, “Govind Singh ji sometimes forgets whether MLAs have elected him as the leader of the opposition. No, he was not elected by MLAs. He was senior so we also agreed on his appointment as leader of the opposition.”

Verma said the people of MP and party leaders want Nath as the state’s CM, adding that Singh should behave the way in which he expects others to do with him.

“All 22 present (in Rahul Gandhi’s meeting) had accepted Kamal Nath as their leader. This is on record. All leaders accepted that the 2023 polls will be fought under Kamal Nath’s leadership,” Verma asserted.

On Sunday, Singh issued a video statement claiming his comment had been wrongly interpreted by the media.

“It is true all the senior leaders have decided to contest the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls under the leadership of Kamal Nath. I have said several times he is our party’s leader,” he said.

Singh, however, maintained the chief minister is selected after the elections and in the legislature party.

Meanwhile, Congress Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh also said party leaders want the polls to be fought under Nath’s leadership.

“The aircraft was on a normal routine training mission. The pilot did the precautionary landing near Bhind,” an IAF spokesperson said in Delhi. Precautionary landing means there could have been some minor issues, due to which the aircraft was landed as a precaution, officials said.

The incident took place at around 8.45 am, the IAF spokesperson said. No harm was caused to any person or material, he said, adding the aircraft is being currently examined. Earlier, Chambal Zone Inspector General of Police S Saxena told PTI that there was no fatality or injury in the landing (process). Some videos went viral on social media platforms in which a number of people were seen gathered near the aircraft.
