Marque angel investors-backed self-driving startup Minus Zero unveiled an autonomous vehicle based on a camera-sensor suite on Sunday. With the ability to scale up to Level 5 autonomy capabilities, the vehicle, named zPod, can drive itself in all environmental and geographical constraints, company’s co-founder Gagandeep Reehal announced.

Co-founded in 2021 by Reehal and Gursimran Kalra, the Bangalore-based tech platform plans to produce fully-autonomous vehicles on the lines of the ones by global tech giants such as Tesla and Google. The startup also plans to leverage AI to resolve issues confronted by tech firms trying to produce autonomous vehicles suitable for Indian roads.

The platform also floated a whitepaper on “Nature-Inspired AI” (NIA), claiming it as a novel approach to building generalized autonomous agents inspired by the physics-aware vision and the predictive decision-making capabilities of a human brain, making it efficient in handling real-world road scenarios.

Using NIA, Minus Zero introduced the concept of ‘True Vision Autonomy’ (TVA), which they believe is the safest and most scalable approach to autonomous driving, and can scale up to Level 5 autonomy, it said. TVA is vehicle agnostic and relies only on cameras as its sensor suite.

The company also plans expanding its autonomous vehicle trials in foreign markets with stable regulatory norms over the next two years, including public road trials. “With true vision autonomy coming to the fore, one can make autonomous vehicles a reality, solving major pain points of the mobility paradigm,” said Reehal, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Minus Zero.

The company said autonomous vehicles can be used in several use-cases, including deploying them for commuting in various campuses, including residential campuses, various institutes, and many other areas.

In recent years, the usage of e-cycles in India has witnessed a notable increase, influenced by various factors. These electric bicycles offer a unique combination of comfort and excitement among riders, making them highly appealing for leisure activities. With a growing environmental consciousness among the population, there is an increasing interest in e-bikes as a cleaner and cost-effective means of travel. There is very strong growth in the e-cycles currently. This growth can be attributed to the availability of diverse riding options and heightened awareness of sustainable and affordable vehicles.

The remarkable efficiency of e-bikes in reducing the human effort compared to traditional bicycles, plays a significant role in their popularity. The surge in e-cycles sales in India can be attributed to various factors, such as rapid urbanization and higher income levels. Additionally, the Government’s initiatives to promote eco-friendly cycling have played a significant role in fostering the growth of cycling culture in the country.

The increasing demand for fuel-efficient options, coupled with the establishment of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, has further fuelled this growth. E-commerce and logistics companies have embraced e-bikes for short-distance deliveries, ensuring both efficiency and rider safety. Technological advancements have been instrumental in transforming various aspects of our lives, work, and connectivity, including the realm of e-bikes.

Recent innovations in e-bike maintenance and related fields have significantly enhanced their accessibility and affordability, making them more attainable for a wider audience. Moreover, the riding experience offered by e-bikes is both enjoyable and convenient, leading to an increased adoption rate among riders. These bikes are specifically engineered to prioritize durability and security, ensuring a reliable option for travellers.

As society becomes increasingly conscious of the environment, there is a growing demand for eco-friendly alternatives, and e-bikes have emerged as viable and sustainable lifestyle options. In addition, leading market players have responded to this demand by introducing interactive technologies with advanced monitoring systems. These apps allow users to track their fitness levels, access real-time information, and work towards achieving their fitness goals, all while monitoring battery levels and other essential features.

As we embrace a world driven by evolving consumer behaviour, the cycling industry is undergoing a transformation. This includes the integration of connected and purpose-built vehicles on the road. The increasing demand for clean and eco-friendly vehicles has prompted a shift towards emission-free alternatives like e-bikes. Although the Indian e-cycle market is still in its early stages, it aims to be a catalyst for creating a more advanced and eco-friendlier world through innovation.

In conclusion, the rise of e-cycles in India signifies a transition towards sustainable and eco-friendly options. Government initiatives, technological advancements, and evolving consumer behaviour have been instrumental in driving their adoption. Through collaborative efforts among riders, manufacturers, and policymakers, e-bikes are poised to play a significant role in India’s journey towards a sustainable active lifestyle.

Tesla Model Y has become the first all-electric vehicle to be billed as the world`s bestselling car, a report has shown. Tesla Model Y surpassed Toyota`s RAV4 and Corolla models to top global sales rankings in the first quarter of 2023, according to data from Jato Dynamics.

The 2023 Model Y starts at $47,490, considerably more than the 2023 Corolla ($21,550) and RAV4 ($27,575), reports The Verge. Tesla Model Y sold 267,200 units globally in the first quarter this year, compared to 256,400 Corolla and 214,700 RAV4 units sold.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk even estimated back in 2016 that this model would draw demand “in the 500k to 1 million units per year level.” Musk 2021 predicted that the Model Y would claim the top spot in the world.

“We think Model Y will be the best-selling car or vehicle of any kind in the world. Probably be next year. I`m not 100 percent certain next year, but I think it`s quite likely,” he had told investors.

Tesla remains the market leader in the electric vehicle (EV) market in the US with more than 50 per cent share, selling more cars than the other 17 automotive groups combined. EV sales increased to represent 7 per cent of all US passenger vehicle sales in 2022, according to Counterpoint Research.

“Tesla is dominating the US EV market while other automotive giants like Ford, General Motors, Stellantis, Volkswagen and Hyundai are struggling to provide strong competition,” according to research analyst Abhik Mukherjee.

“Moreover, with the recent price cuts by Tesla and all versions of Tesla`s Model Y becoming eligible for the EV tax credit subsidy, it is expected that Tesla will take an even higher market share,” Mukherjee added.
